TikTok hacks can be utter lifesavers, like realising what the hook on the trolley does and what the curved part of the hammer is for.

Some, however, have the ability to polarise viewpoints and become widely popular for the incorrect reasons.

After uploading his life hack on TikTok, one man has since ignited a discussion.

A video of a man removing a toilet seat to clean it was posted by social media influencer @alisonkoroly. She frequently offers advice to help her followers’ lives become easier.

Normally, you would clean it with antibacterial wipes and disinfectant spray.

He opts for the odd approach, nevertheless, of placing the toilet seat in the dishwasher.

This dishwasher washes the plates you eat off, and in the video, it is already filled with plates.

The 12-second clip has 4.5 million views and prompted a discussion, with some people being strongly against to the idea.

One person comments: “No one is coming to your house for Thanksgiving ever again.”

Someone else adds: “I’d never put that there, where my plates and forks etc. go into. [I don’t care] how clean it gets.”

“I’m never buying a second-hand dishwasher,” jokes a third.

Another user writes: “I don’t care how hot it gets or how much soap is used, that dishwasher is forever tainted.”

“There’s a good reason you never knew that,” slams a fifth.

Someone else comments: “That’s just great, give a whole new meaning to the expression ‘don’t s*** where you eat’.”

A small number of commenters, though, think the hack is “creative.”

Whether it’s alright to wash your toilet seat in the dishwasher has received opinions from professionals as well.

Dr. Brian Mangum, an epidemiologist and associate professor of medicine at the University of Health Sciences Antigua, said  The Family Handyman: “Consider the fact that your toilet seat is already full of germs.

He continues: “You have now potentially transferred those germs to the same dishwasher where you will wash your children’s plates after pizza night.”

Despite the backlash, you’ll be happy to know that the TikTok was intended to be a joke – as confirmed by the couple.

Speaking to the New York Post, Koroloy said: “Our goal is to create entertaining content that people would laugh at and find fun and funny, and lighthearted.”
