Can they get to the top of the charts this Christmas?
The Official Christmas Number 1 race for 2023 just exploded into a glittery, tinsel-filled extravaganza after several singles are set to be released in the battle for Christmas number 1!
After several people released Christmas songs a battle has commenced for the number #1 and a group of famous TikTok stars have joined forces to offer Christmas cheer all for a great cause!
The festivities kicked off on Friday, December 15, 2023, and the battle rages on until 11:59 pm on Thursday, December 21. The grand unveiling of the 2023 Official Christmas Number 1 winner will go down in history on Friday, December 22, live on the airwaves of BBC Radio 1’s The Official Chart.
The Official Christmas Number 1 is practically a British institution, claimed by musical legends like The Beatles (four times!), the Spice Girls (three-peat champions), and… wait for it… Mr. Blobby and Bob the Builder? Because that’s how Christmas rolls, folks!
But this year the stage is set for an epic clash of new charity singles, nostalgic anniversary campaigns, and the underdog uprising! Martin Talbot, the Chief Executive Officer of the Official Charts Company, can hardly contain his holiday excitement:
“Yes, it’s that time of year again! The festive lights are twinkling, chocolate tubs are multiplying in supermarkets, Xmas channels are taking over our TVs, and, of course, the Christmas Number 1 Race is off and running. Sleaford Mods, Sooty, a Rock Choir, a trance pussycat named Nala – it’s a Christmas chart race like never before!”
Aiming for the top spot is Creator Universe – a coalition of 30 of the UK’s biggest TikTok stars! They’ve joined forces to cover Wizzard’s 1973 classic, “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday,” at none other than the iconic Abbey Road Studios where the Beatles recorded their famous album. The man behind many singers hits including Elton John and Little Simz, Jamie Sellers, worked his magic on this holiday masterpiece while the TikTok stars were organised by singer Cher Carter.
But wait, there’s more! The track is not just about spreading joy; it’s a powerhouse of generosity. 100% of the profits from “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” will be sleighing their way to The Trussell Trust, supporting the busiest winter ever at UK food banks. With over 600,000 people getting a helping hand and a food parcel zipping out every eight seconds, it’s a festive miracle in the making!
Ant Llewellyn-Harris, Creative Universe’s creative director, is buzzing with excitement: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support from some of the UK’s biggest creators and production talent to create this single. It’s filled with joy, but at the heart of this is a team of over 50 people coming together to support one of the UK’s most in need charities.
“The soaring cost of living is driving record numbers of people on the lowest incomes to food banks. Food banks are already stretched to breaking point and urgently need donations to continue to be there for people who need them right now.
“If you can’t volunteer at your local food bank or make a food donation, but you can spare 99p, download I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Creator Universe from December 15”
Hoping to become the oldest person to score a number one single on the UK music charts is Norma from the online duo Jess and Norma. Jess and her grandma, who people are calling ‘The Nation’s Nan’ are part of the mix of TikTok stars who took part in the song and if they hit the top of the charts they could be breaking records as well as earning money for charity! So make sure to download and make this a christmas to remember for Jess and Norma!
