For Apple enthusiasts, 2017 was a difficult year as they had to bid farewell to one of their favourite devices.

While today’s youth may not even know what an MP3 player is, it was undoubtedly a revolutionary technology that essentially replaced CD players.

Once upon a time, Apple’s iPod’s sleek form and user interface were exquisite.

Additionally, the 2005 releases of the Nano and Shuffle—which were meant to be less expensive alternatives to the conventional iPod—came out two years before of the iPhone.

But people really miss the Nano in particular.

YouTuber Zachary Staines recently uploaded a video titled: “Forgotten iPod,” earlier this year and viewers have been reminiscing over the device discontinued in 2017.

“Is this Apple’s forgotten iPod because I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember it at all,” he said.

“This is the seventh and last iPod Nano from 2015.

“This thing is like a mini iPhone, except of course it doesn’t support calls.

“But it does support the usual music, movies, podcasts, the good stuff.

“But see at the release of the iPod, the iPhone 6 was dominating.

“It’s still one of the best selling phones ever.

“It does feel like the success of the iPhone does overshadow the iPod.

“But with the iPhone crushing as an all-in-one device, why have both?

“Though it does make a lot of sense for something like running, which is probably why they still sell for over 200 big ones, and man it’s got me wondering.”

Commenting on the clip, one viewer said: “This was actually my first iPod that wasn’t a hand-me-down. I loved it, and since I shared a cellphone with my siblings at the time, I was able to still enjoy music & videos. I miss it, tbh.”

Another added: “I genuinely used this iPod for years, loved it. Still works today.”

A third person also shared: “This was my first apple device as a kid. used to listen to disney soundtracks and play around in the settings (my parents didn’t let me have games).

“I remember i was DEVASTATED after losing it on a summer vacation.”

From September 7, 2005, to July 27, 2017, the iPod Nano underwent seven incarnations throughout an 11-year existence.

The seventh edition iPod Nano was the last model to date, with a 2.5-inch touch-sensitive touchscreen.

Original Gen 1 iPhone Sells For Over £50,000

Sadly not every iPhone is eligible for such a large sale…but it makes you think how much iconic technology is worth!

The worth of your smartphone typically goes only in one direction…and that is down!  A phone you spend close to £1000 on today will most likely only be worth a small portion of that after owning it for just a few months.

Yet, there are certain exceptions, as demonstrated by a first-generation iPhone that fetched more than £50,000 at an international auction.

The original Apple device was up for auction for 17 days with LCG Auctions and had 28 bids in total before selling on Sunday for $63,356.40 (£56,250). The initial $599 RRP was surpassed by over 10,477%… more than 100 times its original value!

It was a “highly desirable, factory-sealed first-generation original Apple iPhone from 2007” according to LCG Auctions.

In case you were wondering, your old iPhone probably wouldn’t be qualified for a similar payout. The initial iPhone’s seller, Karen Green, had not even opened the packing from Apple, much less handled the device.

Friends gave the phone as a gift to commemorate starting a new job. But at the time, Apple had a exclusivity agreement with the AT&T network as it did with O2 in the UK. The phone was simply left hidden in a cabinet and ignored since Green was bound by a Verizon contract and she forgot about the phone until years later.

Green claims that she plans to use the profits to expand her cosmetic tattoo company. She told Insider, “If I could hold off on the phone for like another 10 years, I probably would. The only reason why I am selling that phone is because I need to support this business.”

Although the original iPhone is obviously valuable for collectors when it is still in its original  packaging, if the mystery buyer opened it up and tried to use it for what it was designed for, it would be disappointing.

The 2G connectivity in the US would no longer function, the  8GB of storage would hardly hold any apps or photos and with the  3.5-inch 320 x 480 screen, it would become clear that the 2-megapixel camera had limits!

However it shows a significant moment in history and demonstrates just how far technology, smart phones and apple have come in such a short space of time!
