The internet is currently losing their minds over an image of a ‘human-sized” bat.
An image uploaded to Twitter by the user @AlexJoestar622 seems to depict a huge, black-winged bat chilling peacefully but it’s the size of it which is freaking social media users out.

The photograph, which was taken in the Philippines, shows the bat hanging upside down from a structure quite innocently.
Twitter user @AlexJoestar622 posted the photo with the caption ‘Remember when I told you guys that the Philippines had bats that are the size of a person?’ along with the statement, ‘Yeah, this was what I was talking about’.

Social media users flooded Twitter to share their ideas about the photo with many finding the size of the bat unbelievable and believing to to be trickery of the camera.
One user @MichaelSalfino replied with ‘This has got to be a trick of perspective, right. RIGHT?!!!!?’
While another @LW_37 offered their opinion on the subject:
‘Photo shop alert
1) hairs
2) Shadow not casted
3) the string it’s attached is not even bending over the weight as this huge bat can have weight over 20kg
4) also the light source is a small square hole in the roof but on the left side of wood it’s well illuminated’
The bat is infact a beast known as a giant golden-crowned flying fox or commonly known as a fox bat.

Fox bats are large, fruit-eating animals that are found on tropical islands around Asia and Australia and have winspans that can reach up to a whopping five feet. Their bodies can also grow up to 16 inches which is what makes them so large.
Although it does look large in the image captured by the Twitter user the bats are actually more the size of a small dog and are meant to be very gentle creatures and luckily for us humans they are also herbivores!
They might look formidable but actually they are fairly harmless and prefer to be kept left alone – but they are most definitely hauntingly beautiful creatures that have got the internet talking!
