After spending the night away, a man came home to find his lawn had been stolen. He was completely shocked.
To be sure, it’s a somewhat skilled crime.
especially considering that this is artificial grass.
Although auto thefts and break-ins sometimes occur, there isn’t a word for the occurrence of someone showing up at your home and damaging your artificial turf.
The grass is, however, supposedly always greener on the other side of the fence.
Maybe that’s connected to this strange crime in some way.
Perhaps the thief realised they could stand it no longer because they were envious of the lawn.
In any case, Danny Baks arrived home in a rather peculiar manner.
When he returned to his home in Darwen, Lancashire, on October 1, he noticed something wasn’t quite right.
It took him a minute to realise that someone had taken the fake grass from in front of his house and taken off.
His daughter asked: “Where has the grass gone?”
If there was ever a question, this one was good.
Danny, who is 43 years old, believes the grass is worth between £80 and £100, so this is not a small-time robbery.
When he started investigating, he discovered that many other individuals in Darwen had also reported items disappearing from their own gardens.
He explained: “I came home on Sunday morning with my daughter and something just looked off.
“The penny didn’t even drop straight away.
“As I was unlocking the door, my daughter turned around to me and said, where has the grass gone?
“I was like what, where’s that gone?
“You don’t expect someone to take a bit of artificial grass.”
He continued: “Obviously you don’t want lose between £80-100, whatever it was.
“But it’s not like a gold diamond ring or anything like that, so who would want to take that?”
Danny looked through social media and discovered that several people had reported missing plant pots and that one of their neighbours had had a bench taken.
Danny only recently moved into his rental home in April.
He didn’t anticipate having to secure the fake grass very much because, after all, who steals fake grass?
“It getting nicked doesn’t really enter your head and it was quite heavy,” Danny rightly assessed.
He’s going to install cameras outside the house now to make sure that this kind of thing doesn’t happen again, but there has already been a genuine expense.
Danny said: “The repercussions from this though is I have my daughter full-time and she’s 12.
“She’s now frightened that they’ll come back and try and get in the house.
“So she’s scared of being at home on her own now.
“So that’s had a knock-on effect with her.”
Woman Devastated After Coming Back From Holiday To Find Her Home Demolished
What would you do in this situation?
When a woman returned from vacation and discovered her home had been destroyed, she was devastated.
Susan Hodgson, a resident of southwest Atlanta, was away when her neighbour called and inquired about hiring someone to bulldoze her home.
Hodgson recalled the neighbour saying: “Did you hire somebody to tear your house down next door to me?”
She said: “It’s been boarded up for about 15 years and I said ‘no’ and she said ‘well there’s someone over here who just demolished the whole house and tore the entire house down.'” Yikes.
The You Call It, We Haul It employees allegedly instructed the neighbour to “shut up and mind her own business” when she approached them.
Hodgson decided to then send a family member to the house to inquire about a permit.
The personnel apparently acknowledged they were at the wrong address after looking over the permit.
Fortunately, nobody was inside the house when it was destroyed.
“It’s been boarded up about 15 years, and we keep it boarded, covered, grass cut, and the yard is clean. The taxes are paid and everything is up on it,” Hodgson said.
“It’s just hard to believe someone thinks they have the right to just come and tear something up and walk away from it and didn’t come back and say I’m sorry.
“What do I need to do to fix this. It was an accident. They didn’t give me nothing.
“It’s just a grumbled mess. The whole house is tumbled in and a big ole mess. He didn’t haul nothing off.”
“I think he owes us an apology, and he needs to fix the problem. He needs to fix the problem,” Hodgson concluded.
According to a statement to Fox 5 Atlanta, the event is “under investigation” and You Call It, We Haul It is “working to rectify the situation.”
The family claimed in a news story on October 22 that they have not yet heard from the company.
The construction firm, which specialises in hauling, grading, and demolition in the Atlanta-Metro area, is “a women-owned business.”
“The You Call It We Haul It team has over 30 years of combined experience in hauling, grading, and demolition services,” they said.
“As a family-owned company, we aim to complete every project with care and love like they are our own.
“We ensure that every customer is beyond satisfied with our work, regardless of size or circumstances.”
