It’s the sequel we’ve all been waiting for since the film’s initial release in 2003 and now finally Freaky Friday 2 could be on the way!
We previously talked about ‘FREAKY FRIDAY 2: JAMIE LEE CURTIS DETAILS HER SEQUEL PITCH TO DISNEY‘ however Jamie Lee Curtis has now added even more fuel to the idea after speaking on the red carpet last night.
Talking with Variety at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, Jamie Lee Curtis made it clear that nothing has officially been confirmed however the reboot is ‘of course going to happen’.

She co-starred with Lindsay Lohan in the classic comedy movie from Walt Disney Studios, which was a retelling of the 1976 original film starring Barbara Harris and a young Jodie Foster.
Curtis, 63, went on to say ‘It’s going to happen. Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying of course it’s going to happen. It’s going to happen.’

The Disney film features Curtis who plays Tess, the mother of Anna her teenage daughter (played by Lohan). The two find that their bodies have exchanged the day after obtaining mysterious fortunes at a Chinese restaurant and they are then forced to live the life of the other. They have to pretend to be each other to their family and friends, until a solution is found, and through this they gain a fresh appreciation and understanding of one another.

Anna is a rebellious teenager whose plays in a a rock band with her family ‘Pink Slip’ (pictured above) while Tessa is a therapist focusing on positivity and wellbeing. As well as the two leading ladies the film also features a famous casting including Mark Harmon, Harold Gould and Chad Michael Murray as love interest Jake (as seen below).

Jamie and Lindsay’s efforts in the film earned a whopping $160 million worldwide from only a small (for Hollywood) $20 million budget! Besides being a huge money earner for Disney, Freaky Friday has become a cult classic and a staple movie of the 2000s.
As well as the famous film Disney also turned the story into a stage musical, with a filmed adaptation debuting in 2018 the channel.

Time will tell when the film comes to fruition but with Jamie Lee Curtis actively pursuing the project at Disney we are sure it won’t be long!
