For every legendary Christmas film, there are ten more you’ve never heard of.  There have been hundreds (thousands) of brand-new holiday films produced during the decades that you’ve spent rewatching A Year Without a Santa Claus, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone. It’s practically impossible for you to catch every holiday special you’ve missed with the 2022 season just around the corner, but you can start with this season’s new releases.

Of course, the dozens of new holiday films that will air on the Hallmark Channel during their Countdown to Christmas are not included in the watchlist below. You can put the most talked-about new Christmas movies of 2022 on your calendar as we wait for their official roster announcement.

Violent Night

Violent Night is a dark comedy for the holidays that will only be available in theatres starting on December 2. It stars David Harbour from Stranger Things along with Beverley D’Angelo, Cam Gigandet, and John Leguizamo. In this R-rated film, David plays Santa Claus, who intervenes to save the day when an affluent family is being held hostage by some mercenaries.

Falling for Christmas

This brand-new holiday romance, which premieres on Netflix on November 10 and is the first of Lindsay Lohan’s two films with the streaming service, marks her long-awaited return to the big screen. LiLo portrays a recently engaged heiress who is afflicted with amnesia following a skiing mishap and placed in the care of a dashing lodge owner (Chord Overstreet) and his daughter.

Christmas With You

Christmas With You, which will be available to watch on Netflix starting November 17, has a plot similar to that of Hannah Montana: The Movie: a burned-out pop singer finds love and inspiration in a tiny community. Aimee Garcia from Dexter and Freddie Prinze Jr. feature in the film.

The Noel Diary

Justin Hartley stars in The Noel Diary, one of Netflix’s newest holiday movies, in his first collaboration following the conclusion of the This Is Us television series. The movie, which will be shown online starting on November 24, centres on a guy who travels back home for Christmas to settle his late and estranged mother’s estate.

Scrooge: A Christmas Carol

This animated movie debuts on Netflix on December 2, offering yet another fresh interpretation of the timeless A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In this movie, which features (the voices of) Jessie Buckley, Luke Evans, Olivia Colman, and Jonathan Pryce, you’ll hear a few well-known voices.

Best. Christmas. Ever.

This Netflix film’s premiere date is still to be determined, but here is what we do know: Best. Christmas. Ever. will include Heather Graham, Jason Biggs, and Brandy Norwood and follow two college pals who are stranded together for the holiday—one is cocky and Valentino-clad with a life that seems ideal, and the other…not so much.

Spirited

Aren’t we fortunate to have two Dickens adaptations in one year? Ryan Reynolds portrays Scrooge in the musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol, Spirited. It also features Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, and it will debut in cinemas on November 11 and be streamed on Apple TV starting on November 18.

A Holiday Spectacular

The Rockettes movie will air on The Hallmark Channel as a part of the network’s Countdown to Christmas programming! A Philadelphia heiress puts off her high-profile wedding to pursue her one true dream—dancing as a Rockette in the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall—in 1958’s A Holiday Spectacular.

But only a few days before Christmas, the town discovers that the bells are gone, and it’s up to a bunch of intrepid kids to crack the case and locate the bells.

A Hollywood Christmas, the fourth holiday film from HBO Max, will follow a young director who has established a reputation for creating Christmas movies. A Scrooge-like (yet attractive) network boss threatens her movie, and the young director finds herself attempting to salvage both Christmas and her Christmas movie. Even during the holidays, they claim that Hollywood adores films about Hollywood!
