Fans of High School Musical have gathered. Zac Efron recently stated his desire to star in a reboot of the HSM franchise.
Since the release of High School Musical 3: Senior Year in theatres in 2008, fans have been pleading with Disney for more of the HSM universe. Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure in 2011 and Disney+’s hilarious High School Musical: The Musical: The Series have followed, but Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and the rest of the original cast have yet to appear on screen.
However, it appears that our prayers may finally be answered. Zac has recently hinted that he would like to direct another HSM film.
In a new interview with E! News, Zac was asked: “Would Zac Efron be interested in a High School Musical reboot?” Without hesitating, the 34-year-old then smiled and said: “Of course. Seriously, having the opportunity, in any form, to go back and work with that team would be so amazing. My heart’s still there.”
“Of course. Seriously, having the opportunity, in any form, to go back and work with that team would be so amazing. My heart’s still there.”Zac Efron quoted during an interview with E! News when asked if he would return to the HSM Franchise.
Zac has avoided any High School Musical associations in recent years, so hearing him say earnestly that his heart is still with his High School Musical family is quite a revelation. Zac then concluded the interview by expanding on his High School Musical remarks, saying: “That would be fantastic. I’m hoping it happens.”
Call Kenny Ortega, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and the rest of the original cast right now!
Of course, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a reboot in the making. The popular series is a mockumentary in which the school where High School Musical was filmed puts on a production of the film for the first time. It stars teen icons Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, as well as a fantastic ensemble cast.
Lucas Gabreel (Ryan) has already appeared as himself in HSMTMTS, while Corbin Bleu (Chad) is set to make an appearance in season 3. All that’s left is for Disney+ to call Zac Efron or, better yet, make High School Musical 4 a reality.
