The singer of “Mirror” is said to have texted Britney Spears a cruel two-word breakup text message.
During their relationship, the 41-year-old singer of “Toxic” and 42-year-old Justin Timberlake were without a question one of the hottest celebrity couples.
The two started dating in 1999 after meeting on the set of All-New Mickey Mouse Club when they were 12 years old. Timberlake ended things in 2002.
Someone who was Spears’s employee at the time has now disclosed how Timberlake ended their romance.
Music director Chris Applebaum, who has collaborated with artists including Demi Lovato, Rihanna, and Miley Cyrus, told Page Six that he was working on Spears’ video for “Overpowered (Darkchild Remix)” in 2002.
The singer of “Everytime” was getting ready to “power through” a difficult dance number that took two days to film while they were filming in downtown Los Angeles.
However, Applebaum remembers that the “…Baby One More Time” artist vanished for roughly 20 to 40 minutes at the end of the second day; he refers to this as a “long time” because it costs “20 grand to sit around.”
He found the pop star in her trailer where she was sitting on the floor with her legs crossed, in tears with makeup running down her face.
Spears allegedly showed Applebaum her phone and said: “I can’t believe it. Look it. This happened.”
Apparently, it was a text from Timberlake that simply read: “It’s over!!!”
The music director remembers that Felicia Culotta, Spears’s longtime friend and assistant, put her arm over the singer’s shoulder and comforted her.
Spears was reportedly reluctant to finish the shoot, but Applebaum says he encouraged her by saying: “If you don’t have it in you, I totally understand … but if you want to go out there and finish this last set-up in the rain, you can show him that he just made the biggest f***ing mistake of his life.”
She is believed to have responded: “I’m going to show him that he blew the best thing he ever had.”
According to Applebaum, Spears danced with “conviction” and was on a “mission” during that part of the performance.
Applebaum asserts in another section of the interview that Timberlake had been attempting to get in touch with her all day and that he was “p***ed” with her after learning that she was having an affair with dancer Wade Robson, which she will acknowledge in her upcoming biography, “The Woman in Me.”
According to Page Six, Spears writes in her book that she and Robson started kissing while they were dancing in a Spanish pub.
Spears claims that despite her years of being “loyal to Justin” and her “only having eyes for him,” she and Timberlake “agreed to move past” their romance.
One of Timberlake’s best songs, “Cry Me A River,” was released soon after their breakup in 2002. The music video for the song portrays a woman who looks similar to his ex.
Rumours soon spread that she had cheated on him, but Timberlake refuted this at the time, telling Today that their relationship was “intense” and that they had decided not to “say specifically why” they broke up.
Britney Spears’ memoir ‘The Woman in Me’ released on October 24.
Britney Spears Confirms She Had Abortion With Justin Timberlake Aged 17
In a shocking revelation, excerpts from Britney Spears’ upcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” have unveiled deeply personal details, including a past abortion she underwent at the age of 17, when she became pregnant by her then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
The memoir delves into her tumultuous 13-year conservatorship under her father, James Spears, where Spears was stripped of her autonomy. She sheds light on the attitude of Justin Timberlake at the time of her pregnancy, sharing that he was “not happy” about the situation and made it clear that they were not prepared for parenthood.
Ms. Spears recounted Timberlake’s perspective in her memoir: “He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives.” Furthermore, she disclosed that Timberlake was “so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”
Although Spears had reservations about the procedure, she stated that she would not have chosen abortion if the decision had been solely hers. She added, “For me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.”
This striking revelation has stirred considerable interest, with many wondering about Timberlake’s response. The BBC has reached out to Justin Timberlake for comment.
The superstar couple dated from 1999 to 2002, a period of intense public scrutiny, and their relationship is the focus of intense curiosity to this day. Britney Spears has since had two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, with her second husband, Kevin Federline.
The memoir, scheduled for release on October 24, arrives two years after the termination of her conservatorship. Spears describes the conservatorship as having “stripped her of her womanhood.” She has previously characterized the arrangement as abusive, initiated by her father in 2008 following her widely publicized breakdown and head-shaving incident.
Spears testified to the court in 2021, alleging that she had been drugged, coerced into performing against her will, and denied the opportunity to have more children while under conservatorship. The arrangement extended control over her financial affairs, career choices, personal matters such as visitation with her teenage sons, and her ability to remarry.
In her upcoming memoir, Spears offers further insights into the harrowing experience of the conservatorship. She described the suppression of her true self and the divide between her public persona as a “wild” performer and her private life as a robot under the conservatorship’s constraints.
Spears also divulged that she was subjected to body-shaming and infantilization by her father, leading to the erosion of her passion for performing. While the book shares darker moments from her life, it also delves into joyous memories from her childhood and a brief return to a semblance of normalcy in Kentwood, Louisiana.
The release of the memoir has allowed Spears to reflect on her transformation over the years and embrace her newfound identity as a strong and confident woman after escaping the clutches of her conservatorship. Her journey is undoubtedly one of resilience, self-discovery, and unwavering determination.
