Hold onto your capes, folks, because “The Marvels” just had the most epic face-plant in MCU history! The movie kicked off with a box office opening weekend that would make even a supervillain wince.
We’re talking a measly $47 million in the box office till, making it the lowest opening weekend in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) history. Thor’s hammer couldn’t have seen this one coming!
At first, the film was all set to skyrocket into the stratosphere, aiming for a cool $75 million to $80 million on its first weekend. But whoops, someone accidentally spilled their cosmic milkshake all over those high expectations, and they had to dial it down to a more ‘reasonable’ $60 million to $65 million. That’s like going from a rocket ride to a tricycle race in a matter of days!
Now, hold your breath, because “The Marvels” cost a jaw-dropping $200 million to produce. We’re talking Stark-level expenses here! To put it into perspective, it’s like Tony Stark throwing a party and accidentally dropping the Iron Man suit into the pool.
To add insult to injury, “The Marvels” managed to do the limbo dance under even the lowest MCU openings of all time. It slid under 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” that brought in $55.4 million (bet Hulk’s not feeling so angry now) and even sneakily slid under “Ant-Man,” which zoomed in with $57.2 million back in 2015.
Not only did the film stumble out of the superhero starting blocks, but it also collected lukewarm reviews faster than you can say “Spider-Sense.”
Many critics gave it a ‘C grade,’ and Rotten Tomatoes served it up with a 62% score. Looks like even superheroes have their off-days, right?
In the MCU universe, it seems like there’s a hint of superhero fatigue in the air. Even Disney’s big boss, Bob Iger, admitted that their plan to unleash a tidal wave of movies and TV shows might’ve backfired just a smidge. Remember “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”? Well, it had a bit of a snooze-fest at the box office, collecting $476 million and being one of the rare MCU flicks not to break even. Oops!
Bob Iger spilled the beans, saying, “We would have liked some of our more recent releases to perform better,” and added that Marvel kinda went all-out, making both movies and TV series. It’s like trying to juggle 20 flaming bowling pins while riding a unicycle – something’s bound to crash and burn!
Now, if you think “The Marvels” hit rock bottom, think again. It somehow managed to scoop up $100 million less than the original. That’s like having your Iron Man suit stolen and not having any spare change for a new one! But hey, it’s not the absolute worst superhero performance at the box office. Remember “Morbius”? It was more like “Moribund” as it crawled away with just $39 million on its opening weekend.
But the grand prize for superhero movie flops goes to the 2015 “Fantastic Four” reboot, which wasn’t even part of the MCU. It barely scraped together a mere $25.6 million. Ouch! That’s like getting a paper cut with a comic book.
So, while “The Marvels” may have had a rocky start, it’s not the end of the superhero world as we know it. The MCU might just need to dust off its cape and think of a new way to save the day
Michael B. Jordan Set To Play Hercules In New Disney Live Action Remake
Hold onto your Mickey ears, folks! The rumor mill is churning, and this time, it’s about our favorite Greek demigod—Hercules.
Forget reading the room; it seems like the House of Mouse is reading the stars and contemplating a live-action remake with none other than Marvel star Michael B. Jordan in the spotlight.
Now, we’re not saying Disney is on shaky ground, but after the Snow White direction debacle, it’s safe to say they might need a map.
According to the wizards at Inside The Magic, the big shots at Disney are eyeing Michael B. Jordan for the role of Hercules.
Cue the applause or the internet’s collective gasp—depending on which corner of cyberspace you’re in.
Given Disney’s recent habit of stirring up controversy faster than a magic potion, it wouldn’t be the biggest shocker if our beloved MBJ does indeed don the Hercules cape.
The rumor mill is working overtime, and the internet is buzzing with opinions.
One brave soul, @freecubaamerican, declared their love for MBJ but dropped a truth bomb: “HE’s NOT GREEK!”

But hold onto your enchanted roses because here’s the real plot twist—Disney might be facing a box office loss of $900 million from their woke flops.
Analyst Valliant Renegade spilled the beans, but surprise, surprise! Disney’s Q3 earnings for 2023 are a whopping $22.3 billion, a 4% growth from the year before.
Disney’s website boasts about restoring creativity to the center of their business, but we’re still waiting for that burst of innovation like a genie from a lamp.

Danny DeVito Reportedly Returning To Reprise Role In Disney’s Live Action Hercules Remake
According to reports, Danny DeVito will reprise his role as Phil in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Hercules.
The beloved animated film from 1997 featured the voice of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Philoctetes, a sarcastic satyr who takes the title character’s super-strong demigod under his wing and helps him learn to handle his strength.
Robert Costanzo provided the voice of Phil in the 1998 animated series, in which DeVito did not return; however, it appears that the Matilda actor may harness his inner satyr for the live-action version.
“I am the live-action Hercules,” DeVito joked when asked if he’d return during the WIRED Autocomplete Interview last year.
“If they don’t put me in that, they don’t have a hair on their ass,” he added.
The live-action movie is in the early stages of production and will be directed by Guy Ritchie (Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes series) and produced by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame, The Gray Man).
Insiders told Giant Freakin Robot that DeVito would play Phil again, although no official confirmation has been given as of yet.
Meanwhile, it appears that the Taxi star is interested in revisiting more than just the part of Phil.
The actor talked about maybe reprising his role as DC villain Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, who he initially played in 1992’s Batman Returns directed by Tim Burton.
“I feel like it’s not out of the question that The Penguin will return someday, but this is all up to Tim [Burton], whether or not Tim wants to do this,” he told Forbes two years ago.

“I would say that could be in the cards because we ain’t dead yet.
“We could do a continuation of what we had in the past because that was truly a brilliant movie.
“They afforded me that opportunity and I feel very grateful and would I like to revisit it? Why not! It was a really great moment in time for me.”
And while a new Penguin movie with DeVito may not be in the works right now, Colin Farrell just played the infamous villain in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson as the main character.

For a previously planned HBO Max series, Farrell will reprise the part. Cristin Milioti, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Michael Kelly will also appear.
It is anticipated to debut later this year or in the first quarter of 2024 and is simply titled The Penguin.
