My Big Fat Greek Wedding may be the least plausible franchise in cinematic history. The low-budget independent romantic comedy made $241 million in the United States alone after becoming a huge word-of-mouth hit in the spring and summer of 2002. My Big Fat Greek Life, a CBS television series that ran for one season and featured star actress and writer Nia Vardalos, was the result. In 2016, a direct sequel, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, was released. Even while it wasn’t quite as well-liked as the first film, the sequel nonetheless far outperformed its budget.

A third movie is now under production. Evidently, there are numerous marriages in this large Greek family. The movie is already under production, and Vardalos herself broke the news on her Twitter account, confirming that Greece is the location.

“Thank you so much for the lovely messages,” Vardalos said from a little room above the set in Athens. She also revealed that she is the director of the project. (The first Big Fat Greek Wedding was directed by Joel Zwick; the sequel was by Kirk Jones.)
