Turner has recently had a lot of health problems, including renal failure, cancer, and a stroke.

In the 1960s, she and her husband Ike achieved renown with songs like Proud Mary and River Deep, Mountain High. Behind the scenes things weren’t so happy and the marital violence that her husband Ike subjected his wife to was shown in the three Oscar-winning 1993 Hollywood movie starring Angela Bassett.

After divorcing the controlling Ike in 1978, she went on to have more solo success in the 1980s and 1990’s with songs like Steamy Windows, Let’s Stay Together, I Don’t Wanna Fight, Private Dancer and the James Bond theme GoldenEye!

Tina Turner, known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” was renowned for her rather raunchy, upbeat performances and her husky, strong and sexy voice. She was elected into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 as a solo artist after being inducted alongside Ike in 1991 and received an incredible Grammy Awards throughout her career.

When inducted to the Hall of Fame as a solo artist they were quoted as saying how she had ‘expanded the once-limited idea of how a Black woman could conquer a stage and be both a powerhouse and a multidimensional being’.

While she may no longer be with us her songs and story will be immortalised in the stage show ‘Tina: The Musical’ which recounts some of her biggest hits and has thrilled audiences for years and now we hope for more years to come.
