At its annual ‘Wonderlust’ event in California today, Apple announced the eagerly anticipated iPhone 15.

The device, which starts at $799, comes in five new colors—yellow, pink, blue, green, and black—and has a ceramic cover. It also has a brand-new textured matte surface different to previous models.

Along with iOS 17, which adds NameDrop, Live Voicemail, and numerous other new features, the smartphone also has an improved camera.

Apple has officially verified a long-running internet rumour: the iPhone 15 will accept USB-C charging cords that also work with the AirPods Pro, enabling the use of the same charging cables used for iPads and Macs.

Preorders for the iPhone 15 began on Friday and the device will go on sale on September 22.

The 48-megapixel primary camera in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which start at $899, has twice the telephoto capability for taking images and 4K video, and it is powered by the new A16 bionic chips.

The iPhone 15 Plus offers the same functionality as the flagship model, just with a larger 6.7-inch display. Apple products will now be engineered to use the same USB-C charging charging cables as their Mac and iPad products in aid of reducing production and the amount of charges consumers will need.

New features on both smartphones enable users to shoot portrait photos without first entering Portrait mode. Apple used machine learning to identify people in the frame and enables users to instantly or later in the Photos app convert a photo into a portrait.

The Dynamic Island, a feature exclusive to the top-tier iPhone 14 series, is a “pill-shaped” notch at the top of the display that shows alerts and activities in the new model and the new model also has a OLED Super Retina display which supports Dolby Vision content.

However, its display’s maximum brightness in direct sunlight is 2,000 nits, which is twice as bright as the iPhone 14 and this model is the first to include tinted rear glass.

Users may customise how they look to their contacts by adding Contact Posters. New stickers are available in Messages, and Live Voicemail will show voicemail transcripts on the display in real time.

Additionally, there is Check In, which enables users to instantly tell friends and family when they arrive at their destination safely. These notifications take the form of text messages and share your battery level.

Another much awaited update called Name Drop enables users to share contact information by merely bringing two iPhones together. The same action can also be used to transfer multimedia via AirDrop and more.

Additionally, when the iPhone is on, the new StandBy offers customers a configurable full-screen experience with glanceable information.

The Perseverance Mars rover, which is now investigating the Red Planet, was built with titanium, and the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are made with the same titanium. They are the lightest professional goods ever!

Black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium are the four new finishes that will be offered for both.
