Crafting a perfect cocktail takes skill, precision, and a dash of creativity. Whether it’s a sophisticated cosmopolitan or a rugged whiskey sour, these libations can be quite the labor of love, especially if you’re ordering them in bulk. But there’s one particular drink that stands out as a challenge for our hardworking bartenders, and that’s none other than the notorious Long Island iced tea.

TikTok sensation and self-proclaimed ‘bar star,’ Porsha, known to her followers as @soundbowlbae, has gone viral with a video where she candidly dishes the tea on this highly alcoholic classic.

“When you saunter up to the bar and you order a Long Island, the first thing I’m thinking is, ‘Is everything OK?’ Porsha playfully reveals to her fans.

But why all the fuss about this innocent-looking drink? Well, it turns out the standard Long Island Iced Tea is a potent mix of rum, tequila, vodka, and gin. Porsha can’t help but question, “Why on earth would you want four different liquors in your drink? That’s just insane to me, but if you like it, I love it. But just know that I’m judging you a little bit.”

In her TikTok post, Porsha even shares her own Long Island iced tea recipe for those who want to keep it a tad less, well, crazy. It includes ¾ ounces each of vodka, gin, rum, and tequila, ½ ounce of triple sec and sour mix, topped off with cola. A milder take on the wild child of cocktails.

Some defended their love for the Long Island, with one person humorously stating, “Long Island is the only way to make sure you got liquor in your drink.” Another chimed in, “It’s ’cause I’m trying to get straight to the point.”

In an interview with the Daily Dot, Porsha clarified that her video was all in good fun, aimed at poking a bit of fun at the Long Island drinker. She emphasizes that she doesn’t judge anyone for their drink preferences and that her videos are meant to be light-hearted jokes.

The Long Island iced tea may be a bit of a mixological mystery for bartenders, but it’s all in the name of good-natured cocktail banter. The next time you order one, just remember to add a sprinkle of humor to your glass because, in the end, it’s all about sipping and savoring the moment, no matter what’s in your glass!
