In the first-ever mugshot of a former US president, Donald Trump has turned himself in to authorities in Georgia on suspicion of attempting to rig the state’s 2020 election results.
For his release from the Atlanta jail as he awaits trial, Mr. Trump was required to post a bail bond in the amount of $200,000 (£160,000). He later referred to the situation as “a travesty of justice”…a statement in true Trump fashion.
It was his fourth criminal arrest in five months, but this was his first police booking picture which has been shared to the world.
For the first time since January 2021, Mr. Trump later tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter. He posted the photo and the URL on his website along with the statement, “Election meddling. Never, ever give up.

He joins the list of well-known Americans like Frank Sinatra, Al Capone, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Lindsay Lohan who have appeared in booking pictures following their arrest.
Because he is leading the Republican field to take against President Joe Biden, a Democrat, in the upcoming presidential election, Mr. Trump claims that the cases against him are politically motivated.
He travelled back and forth on his own plane on Thursday afternoon from New Jersey, becoming the first past or current US president to ever be charged.
Following his narrow loss to Mr. Biden in Georgia by fewer than 12,000 votes, Mr. Trump was charged last week along with 18 other defendants with tampering with election results.
