A recent survey found that just 50% of young individuals claim to be exclusively attracted to the opposite sex.
The survey’s researchers, Ipsos Mori, discovered that 50% of those between the ages of 18 and 24 are “only attracted to those of the opposite sex.”
The proportion of people attracted to the opposing gender only increased as the age groups got older.
According to psychologists, the findings indicate a generational shift in how young people perceive sexuality.
According to Karen Blair, a Trent University professor who specialises in the psychology of sexual orientation, “the gains at least partially imply an increase in willingness and ability to come out,”
There have been less and less extrinsic influences on recent generations to practise heterosexuality.
Many people under the age of 25 will have had “drastically different” experiences than older generations, she continued.
Celebrities who openly identify as bisexual include model Cara Delevigne, Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart, and Will Smith’s daughter Willow Smith.
Similar to this, a US survey revealed that a record 5.6% of Americans now identify as LGBTQ. They identified as bisexual in large part.
Younger generations have also been discovered to be more accepting of sexual orientation.
