Miriam Margolyes has opened up about her health, revealing that she ‘can’t walk’ and may need a wheelchair soon.

The 82-year-old Babe actress is lauded for her illustrious career as a character actor on both stage and television.

For her work in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, Margolyes won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Additionally, the actress is known for her performance as Professor Sprout in the renowned Harry Potter movie series.

Unfortunately, the James and the Giant Peach actress has since admitted that she is struggling with her health.

When appearing on the How To Fail podcast, Margolyes revealed that she suffers from spinal stenosis.

According to Mayo Clinic, spinal stenosis is when the space inside the backbone is too small and it puts pressure on the spinal cords and nerves that travel through the spine.

Opening up about her previous life choices, Margolyes said: “The one thing I have not conquered and should have conquered is my weight. I am a blubber mass. I am fat. And to be fat and 82 is truly pathetic.

“It’s such a defeat. A cream bun, a chocolate, a helping of chopped liver is more important than your health and aesthetic presentation? No, it isn’t more important, it’s just greed, lack of discipline, all the things I’m embarrassed by in myself.”

Margolyes went on to describe it as a ‘major failure’, adding that she’s ‘limited my life because of my longing for fudge or chopped liver, cheesecake’.

“It is a major failure and because of that I’ve got spinal stenosis, I can’t walk, I’m going to be in a wheelchair before I’m much older,” she commented.

“I mean, look at Camilla, our Queen, she’s a good-looking woman, she’s got her body in trim. I like her as a person… She’s splendid and she’s taken care of herself. It wasn’t joy, it was laziness, it was greed – and I regret it.”

The Harry Potter star’s comments come after she appeared as a cover star for British Vogue, in which she posed nude for the magazine.

Margolyes told the journal in an interview that she had recently been sent to the hospital for an emergency and would need heart surgery.

She disclosed that the ‘unexpected’ problem necessitates the placement of a cardiac stent before she can resume her profession.
“When you’re young, you never think about death. You just think about your next f*** basically. I think about death a lot,” Margolyes remarked on the matter.
