ITV’s An Audience With Adele brought the singer to tears but Boy George’s hat’s obstruction of the audience’s view was not what caused them.
Attentively watched by Boy George’s hat, Emma Thompson’s fun dance moves and a star-studded audience, Adele performed songs from her new album, 30, took questions and ruined her make-up when surprised by a visit from an inspiring former teacher.
The celebrity-filled audience included Emma Watson’s dance moves (plus the actress), Boy George (and his ginormous hat), Stormzy, Samuel L Jackson, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston and many more.
Before bringing Adele’s former English teacher, Ms McDonald, on stage, Emma Thompson asked the singer about the people who had inspired her life, to which Adele replied:
“She left in year eight but she got me really into literature, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics. But she also did street dance, I was too scared to go in, but like in the canteen they used to do these dances and stuff like that.
“She was so bloody cool, so engaging, and she really made us care, and we knew that she cared about us and stuff like that. She used to have all these gold bracelets and gold rings.
“She was bloody cool and so relatable and likeable, that I really looked forward to my English lessons.”
The singer cried at the sight of her English teacher – as many of us would, although for different reasons.
In the meantime, while Adele was bawling her eyes out, Boy George’s choice of a plus one was ferociously criticized on Twitter.
@beanhive shared: “Gutted for whoever’s sat behind Boy George and his giant hat #AnAudienceWithAdele.”
“Imagine getting tickets to Adele’s first gig in the UK for years only to be sat behind boy George and that bloody massive hat #AnAudienceWithAdele,” @alicexbowler uttered.
Followed by @garethblackwood who added: “Can guarantee if I’d been at this I’d be the poor f****r sat in the restricted view seat behind Boy George #AnAudienceWithAdele #Adele.”
@alexaitch piled on: “Imagine getting tickets to #AnAudienceWithAdele and getting stuck behind Boy George’s giant hat.”
Adele has not made a statement regarding Boy George’s hat, but she tweeted about her life-long dream of doing An Audience With:
“Home Sweet Home. I’ve always dreamt of doing An Audience With… There was so much love in the room for each other, it felt like such a gig!
“Everyone was raucous and bang up for it! And my teacher Ms McDonald was there, it was just heaven.”
