The Exorcist Director ‘William Friedkin’ Dies Aged 87

The Exorcist’s legendary filmmaker, William Friedkin, passed away on Monday at the age of 87.

In an interview to the BBC his widow Sherry Lansing said ‘He had a wonderful life. He was almost 88 – he has a new movie coming out.

He was the most wonderful husband in the world. He was the most wonderful father in the world. He had a big wonderful, life. There was no dream unfulfilled.’

The reason of death hasn’t been determined yet however the filmmaker recently reportedly experiencing health problems.

Among his other well-known films was the criminal drama The French Connection, which took home five Academy Awards overall and one for outstanding director, the best picture and Gene Hackman’s best actor awards.

The 1973 film The Exorcist told the terrifying and enthralling tale of a 12-year-old girl who was possessed by the demon.

People exiting the theatre trembling and shouting, as well as moviegoers passing out and throwing up in their seats, were all reported by the media at the time.

The movie reportedly made $500 million (£391 million) globally and spawned several sequels and was nominated for ten Oscars, winning two of them.

The newest edition releases this October ‘The Exorcist: The Believer’ directed by David Gordon Green.

Friedkin sadly passed away before his most recent film, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, could be shown by audiences on August 30 at the Venice Film Festival.

It will be showcased at the ceremony and will honour the late director.
