Taylor Swift: The Eras becomes one of the largest domestic box office debuts of 2023, so Swiftmania is only becoming stronger.
AMC Theatres, the movie’s distributor, reports that the new movie, which follows the singer on her famed tour, has made between $95 and $97 million worldwide. Move over, John Frankenheimer.
The Numbers estimates that Never Say Never by Justin Bieber has an all-time domestic box office gross of $73 million, but the movie created history before its debut weekend by becoming one of the highest-grossing concert films of all time.
The movie automatically ranks among the top 10 opening weekends of this year with an opening weekend gross of $95 to $97 million.
If you couldn’t acquire a ticket to the tour, Swifties, you might want to just grab a chocolate bar and go to the movies this weekend.
The Sam Wrench-directed movie follows the “Cardigan” singer and her dancers on their world tour in 2023–2024.
However, it’s not just drawing large crowds; critics are also gushing about it.
“The film captures the singer in such crystal, steady vision that you can collect treasures of details – the individual sequins on her couture bodysuits, the scuff marks on her stage,” she added.
The interactive theatrical experience, according to Roy Sheffield of Rolling Stone, deftly avoids all the clichés from concert films to give the subgenre new life.
“..No fan interviews, no backstage melodrama, no voice-over explication, just a night of music where everybody is a star,” he wrote.
“Just as the tour is more daft and ambitious than anything else she’s tried onstage, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is unlike anything else she — or anyone else — has done onscreen,” Sheffield added.
While writer for the Sydney Morning Herald Nell Geraets hailed the film as an ‘extraordinary ode to Swift’s fans’ and gave it four stars.
“When the camera strays from the star, it lands on members of the crowd – adoring fans with tears streaking down their faces. It’s fandom at its rawest; it’s witnessing a young girl seeing her idol in the flesh for the first time. These shots lift the curtain, revealing the driving force behind Swift’s mega-fame,” she said.
TAYLOR SWIFT SET TO STAR IN DEADPOOL 3
The singer is set to star in the new film!
An incredible piece of fan art featuring Taylor Swift as Dazzler has become popular due to a flurry of fresh Deadpool 3 rumours and we are so excited at the idea!
Swift has never been more well-known with her first US leg of The Eras Tour recently ending and set to be the highest earning tour of all time. Because of this, the mere thought of a possible appearance in the MCU has caused a tonne of enthusiasm online amongst her fans known as ‘swifties’ as well as the Marvel fanbase.
Along with the spreading rumours that Swift may make a surprise appearance as Marvel Comics’ Alison Blaire in Deadpool 3 opposite Ryan Reynolds, who portrays the antihero, a piece of fan art picturing Taylor Swift as the X-Men’s Dazzler has been trending created by @defendinisart (which you can see below).
Swift is the ideal choice for the part since Dazzler, a pop phenomenon in the Marvel Universe with the same powers as Swift, can transform sound vibrations into light and energy beams.
Whether it occurs or not, Defendini’s work is a wonderful creation and we can only HOPE it comes to fruition!
But one thing we DO know is that Hugh Jackman is reprising his role of the X-men legend Wolverine after an official announcement video was published last year!
Since then Hugh Jackman has been showcasing his immense gym workouts over the past year to get into shape for the iconic character and just a few weeks ago images from the set were released showing Jackman and Reynolds together.
Jackman was dressed in Wolverine’s classic yellow costume famous from the comic books and looked great alongside Reynolds who once again has donned the Deadpool black and red costume!
It’s definitely not going to be one to miss and we can’t wait for the new Marvel movie which we have no doubt will be just as ridiculous, full of action and sharp cutting gags just like the first two movies. Bring it on!
