‘Snow White’ Star Rachel Zegler Axed From The Movie And Other Roles

Several years ago, The Walt Disney Company embarked on a grand mission—to breathe new life into their classic animated films through live-action adaptations. The result? A mixed bag of cinematic gems and box office busts, ranging from the visually stunning “The Lion King” (2019) and “The Jungle Book” (2016) to the enchanting “Cinderella” (2015).

This year, Disney+ debuted “Peter Pan & Wendy,” adding to their roster of live-action adaptations. However, their second attempt to leverage a beloved theme park attraction, “Haunted Mansion” (2023), ended up haunting them at the box office, becoming a colossal disappointment.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (2023), the fifth and final installment in the iconic franchise, also hit a rocky path at the box office despite its staggering $250 million budget.

Now, Disney fans are eagerly awaiting the live-action remake of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937), but not without some serious reservations. This upcoming reimagining of the classic fairytale boasts Hollywood stars like Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.

Rachel Zegler, who takes on the role of Snow White, has been unapologetically critical of the original film, questioning its themes at every turn. Zegler, known for her work in “West Side Story” (2021) and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” (2023), has even hinted at major changes to the love story, suggesting that the prince’s scenes might be axed entirely.

In her view, the original Snow White was a helpless damsel in distress solely saved by a prince. Zegler believes this trope doesn’t fit the character. She has humorously toyed with the idea of eliminating the Prince character altogether, emphasizing that Snow White doesn’t need a romantic subplot to assert her power.

These comments have polarized fans, sparking intense speculation about the film’s outcome. Zegler has gone as far as joking that the film might never see the light of day due to her candid remarks.

Adding to the drama, Rachel Zegler has been dropped from another project—Paddington 3. This heartwarming series starring the beloved bear has become one of the most cherished family-friendly franchises. The second installment holds one of the highest critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes, and the third film is expected to follow suit. Zegler, initially attached to the project, has been removed from it.

Reportedly, Zegler’s removal from Paddington 3 is a consequence of the ongoing Hollywood strikes, which have disrupted numerous projects across television and film production. Streaming giants like Disney+, Netflix, and Max have all felt the impact of these strikes.

As the controversies continue to mount, Disney’s live-action “Snow White” faces another storm—its decision to exclude the dwarfs from the film. Disney’s choices have raised eyebrows and prompted accusations of being overly “woke.”

Despite the controversies, Disney’s live-action “Snow White” is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2024, promising to deliver a fresh take on a beloved classic. The world eagerly awaits to see if this daring gamble will pay off.

ORIGINAL SNOW WHITE DIRECTOR’S SON SLAMS ‘INSULTING’ DISNEY REMAKE STARRING RACHEL ZEGLER

The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs director’s son has denounced the planned remake, saying that it will make Walt Disney and his father “turn in their graves.”
The new “woke” version, scheduled for debut in 2024, has been criticised by David Hand, whose father of the same name worked with Walt Disney to create the iconic 1937 cartoon.

The ‘seven dwarfs‘ will be replaced by’magical creatures’ in the new live-action feature, a contentious modification made in an effort to make the picture more inclusive for a contemporary audience

Additionally, some theories claim that the movie won’t be a love tale.

In the TikTok below (posted by cosywithangie) you can see the star of the new Disney retelling discuss the new Snow White film in an interview alongside the evil queen herself Gal Gadot.

During the interview she says ‘The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so. There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird! So we didn’t do that this time.

I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love.’

Mr. Hand, a former Disney designer, told The Telegraph that he ‘disagrees’ with the critiques.
Many members of the younger age, according to the 91-year-old, ‘have never seen the original’ and ‘don’t know what they’re talking about’

‘I mean, it’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it. I think it’s pathetic that people feel that way… these are art forms in the world of film today’

He went on to explain how he he doesn’t understand Disney’s motive for ‘trying to do something new with something that was such a great success earlier. I’m afraid of what they’re going to do with the early films… their thoughts are just so radical now.

‘They change the stories, they change the thought processes of the characters, they just aren’t the original stories anymore. They’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that.

I find it quite frankly a bit insulting that they may have done with some of these classic films.

There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did… I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves’

Disney’s Live Action Named ‘Snow Woke’ As 7 Dwarfs Replaced By Magical Creatures Of All Sizes And Genders

Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “Snow White” is facing criticism for its modernized portrayal of the seven dwarfs as “magical creatures” encompassing various sizes and genders. The film, set to release next year, features Hispanic actress Rachel Zegler as the iconic fairy tale heroine. Recently, set photos from Bedfordshire, England showed a Snow White stand-in accompanied by a diverse group of brightly colored companions, sparking debate about the film’s departure from the 1937 animated classic.

Critics took to social media to express their discontent with the new approach, with some deriding it as being overly politically correct. The backlash was accompanied by hashtags such as “#GoWokeGoBroke” and comments like “Looks like the Woke don’t care much for dwarves” and “Snow white and the seven diversity hires.” Concerns were also raised about the absence of Prince Charming in the storyline and the film’s focus on Snow White’s leadership aspirations.

Early on, “Game of Thrones” actor Peter Dinklage, who has dwarfism, voiced his criticism of the film’s portrayal of disability. He questioned the decision to cast a Latina actress as Snow White while maintaining the narrative of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Dinklage expressed frustration with the continued depiction of seven dwarfs living together in a cave, calling it a backward story that reinforces stereotypes.

In response to the backlash, Disney stated that it was taking a “different approach” to avoid perpetuating stereotypes from the original film. The company mentioned consulting with members of the dwarfism community in reimagining the characters. Zegler, known for her role as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of “West Side Story,” defended the changes, highlighting the need for a refreshing and empowering narrative that goes beyond the traditional “Prince Charming” storyline.

The upcoming “Snow White” remake is penned by “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig and directed by Marc Webb. Despite the immense backlash the film has received since its announcement, it aims to offer a contemporary take on the beloved tale, presenting a Snow White with aspirations and a purpose that extends beyond waiting for her prince.

Piers Morgan debates Disney’s decision on his Uncensored show on YouTube.

And NOW it seems that the movie is set to be postponed after the righter strikes are still ongoing in the US. Originally scheduled for March 22nd, 2024 reports online have stated that the film will be pushed back and the film is yet to be completed as reshoots are still pending since the strikes began.

It seems a growing part of the internet has bad feelings towards the movie and it’s stars while others are excited for the update. We will have to wait and see exactly what this princess fairytale turns out to be like and if audiences will get the happy ending they are after.
