Since the last Harry Potter movie enchanted fans all over the world, it has been more than ten years. Warner Bros. has since developed a number of spin-offs, including the Fantastic Beasts trilogy. However, the franchise’s final movie had a poor box office performance, leaving the future of the allegedly five-part film series unclear.
But, Warner Bros. is looking to invest in another Harry Potter project that CEO David Zaslav believes would be financially successful. Zaslav continues to be J.K. Rowling’s dependable ally despite the controversy she has encountered. In fact, the company intends to reinvent the property with a completely new cast, according to reputable leaker WDW Pro.
In addition to the suspected Harry Potter movie remake, there have been plans to adapt the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which made its West End debut in 2016. The plot centres on Harry Potter and Albus and Scorpius Malfoy, the sons of Draco Malfoy.
Since that Warner Bros. controls the rights to The Cursed Child, there is a strong likelihood that it will go forward. In the following five years, the original cast members Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will also be the same age as the characters.
The Cursed Child will be adapted for the big screen, according to a story from The Sun. When it debuted in the West End, the play was a financial success and a hit with audiences. The busy production on the Fantastic Beasts films only caused the movie project to be put on hold.
“A line has been temporarily drawn on that for now, especially given its lacklustre performance, so it’s full steam ahead when it comes to developing The Cursed Child. At the moment, it is in very formative stages and they are discussing the next steps to move it forward.”The Sun
The insider added that while it appears to be a very difficult task, it would be a fan’s dream to see the original cast members return in the game. Everyone wants Radcliffe to return to the Harry Potter universe, the insider said. To persuade the actor, all they had to do was rewrite the script and finalise all the arrangements for the future film.
“The hope at the moment is that The Cursed Child could be made into two films – both which would pack as much punch, if not more, than the stage show. The Sun
Fans of the franchise can only hope that the project will proceed and that the performers will grant their request by repeating their roles because these ideas for The Cursed Child appear to be quite exciting. But, nothing is officially confirmed at this time.
Harry Potter Original Cast Is Open To Return To The Wizarding World
The original lead actors are still open to returning, despite all the hullabaloo surrounding the Harry Potter universe and its author, J.K. Rowling. According to Daily Mail, Rupert Grint indicated that he would be willing to reprise his role as Ron Weasley if “the timing was right” and “everyone was coming back.”
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe also admitted that he’s “never going to say never” and referred to the Star Wars cast who returned to the franchise after 30 to 40 years. However, the actor revealed that the project is “not something I’m really interested in doing right now.”
Emma Watson is also open to reprising her iconic Hermione Granger role, but only if J.K. Rowling would not be involved, as confirmed by a source from Giant Freakin Robot.
