‘Wizard of Oz’ Actress Dies Aged 91

One of the last remaining actors from The Wizard of Oz Film has passed away

Sadly, Betty Ann Bruno, an actress renowned for her role in the beloved movie “The Wizard of Oz,” has passed away at the age of 91.

Bruno experienced a “sudden, splitting headache” on Sunday when she was at the Sonoma Women’s Club. Craig Scheiner, her husband, immediately took her to the hospital where shehas “a heart attack and collapsed on the floor”  before she could get to the front desk. She had no serious health problems, according to her spouse but her heart wore out due to old age.

In the weeks leading up to her passing, Craig described how his wife had been extremely active. He said she had been occupied with catching up with her pals and offering hula courses which was a huge hobby of hers.

One of the last Munchkins thought to be alive, Betty, was recently acknowledged at the Oz Stravaganza in Chittenango, New York – The celebration for The Wizard of Oz.

She moved from acting to journalism and worked as a television journalist for KTVU in the Bay Area, where she spent twenty years and won three Emmy Awards for breaking news, news-feature series, and investigative series.

She will be fondly remembered for her contribution to entertainment and for helping create a cult classic that continues to delight audiences all around the world.
