The cast of the upcoming big-budget film Oppenheimer has revealed the ‘gruelling’ lengths Cillian Murphy went to portray the ‘father of the atom bomb,’ claiming the actor had a very strict diet to achieve the ’emancipated’ scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer
In the biopic directed by Christopher Nolan, featuring the Peaky Blinders actor, 47, as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the story follows the physicist as he develops the atomic weapon during World War II as part of the top-secret Manhattan Project.

Cillian Murphy is famous for acting in a range of films such as ’28 Days Later’, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘Inception’ and for his portrayal of Tommy Shelby in the BBC series ‘Peaky Blinders’.

The severe measures Cillian took to depict the scientist on television, including dropping weight to mimic his “almost emaciated” body.
His transformation, according to Murphy himself, wasn’t “healthy.”
The actor said in an interview with the New York Times that it took him more than five months to mentally and physically prepare for the part.

He said that he “loved” the physical aspect of getting ready for the part and talked about how he wanted to get thinner to convey Oppenheimer’s “never-eating” appearance.

When discussing Cillian’s dramatic change, his co-star Emily Blunt remarked on the process he went through – the actor was only allowed to eat ONE almond nut per day while adhering to a strict diet.
