The Pirates of the Caribbean film series will be rebooted, it has been officially announced.

With its most recent installment, 2017,’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which not only failed at the box office but also received scathing criticism from both reviewers and fans, the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise hit a tough period although fans are always asking for more.

Starting as a ride at Disneyland parks the film generated 5 films that people still love to watch and enjoy and is one of the most successful franchises that Disney has created starring it’s leading man Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Since he already has a great body of work, the announcement that Craig Mazin would pen Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is intriguing for the series. Mazin’s work most recently in Chernobyl and The Last of Us shows his ability as a screenwriter and includes some uncredited work on Dune 2. He certainly knows what he is doing and he could be the one to steer the franchise into the right direction.

Craig Mazin hinted about the plot of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 in a recent interview (via LA Times), stating, “It’s too weird.”. The plot of the movie, he said, sounded too far-fetched for Disney…but Disney surprised everyone by giving the green light for the project to go ahead.

Mazin’s hint the franchise will take a radical new turn rather than follow the same road as its predecessors although sadly this has been stalled by the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Depp did state that he would return if the screenplay was strong enough and there was a good story, and Mazin has stated that the script is “fantastic,” but will this be the return of Johnny Depp?

While Johnny Depp’s participation in the spin-off project for the series is still up in the air, rumours claim that a second film starring Margot Robbie as the leading pirate has received fresh momentum as a result of Barbie’s success and popularity.

So we could be seeing not just one pirates movie being made…but two! How exciting!
