Most fairy tales such as Cinderella, have dark and scary origins with the original Cinderella story written by Charles Perrault in 1697 and later by the Grimm brothers in 1812. These versions never had a fairy godmother or a heroic ending for our princess to be.
MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIE RELEASES: COMING 2024
Instead, it followed a young girl who faced the loss of her mother and the cruelty of her new stepmother and stepsisters. Disney, known for making stories more family-friendly, skipped over the gruesome parts. For instance, in the original tale, the stepsisters went to extreme measures to fit into Cinderella’s glass slipper, even cutting off parts of their feet! We’re glad that didn’t make it into the movie!
Now, after more than fifty years since Disney released its Cinderella film in 1950, the bloodier roots of the story are getting a chance to shine.
‘MOST DISTURBING MOVIE OF ALL TIME’ IS HORROR FILM FROM 2005
The upcoming horror movie, Cinderella’s Curse, is being produced and directed by Louisa Warren and written by Harry Boxley.
Director Warren told the Bloody Disgusting: ‘This an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know. There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands. I think the gore hounds are in for a treat in my dark retelling.’
WINNIE THE POOH BLOOD AND HONEY – EVERYTHING WE KNOW SO FAR
Director Warren promises a unique and dark retelling of the beloved tale. She’s excited to bring some truly horrific deaths to the story, which might thrill fans of gory movies.
Chrissie Wunna is set to play the gory Fairy Godmother in this new spin on the classic tale and told Bloody Disgusting ‘The fairy godmother is cunning, cruel and deadly. Things are going to get extremely bloody when she’s around’.
This new film is part of a growing trend in the horror genre. Other independent projects have also taken dark and macabre twists on popular fairy tales and children’s stories that are in the public domain from a Winnie the Pooh adaptation called “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” to the possibility of a horrifying Teletubbies remake.
So, brace yourself for a chilling and frightful Cinderella like you’ve never seen before, hitting the screens later this fall. This film might not be the wish your heart made…but more the nightmare!
