There is a thief on the set of Beetlejuice 2! An iconic Beetlejuice statue has gone MIA, leaving fans and the Vermont State Police scratching their heads
The eye-catching artwork, straight out of Tim Burton‘s ’88 comedy classic, was all set to make a grand entrance in the upcoming sequel. But guess what? It vanished along with a lamppost topped with a “distinctive” pumpkin decoration. Talk about a heist!
The police posted on Facebook, “We tried saying the name of this stolen statue three times, but it didn’t come back!” Seriously, they’re on the case, investigating the theft of this 150-pound set piece from the East Corinth filming location.
The thievery went down between July 13 and July 17, while Beetlejuice 2 was shooting in Vermont. Sneaky robbers pulled up in an “older-model” GMC pickup truck, swiped the statue’s base, and hightailed it out of there. But they weren’t done! Oh no, they returned on Monday to snatch the rest. Police are clueless about their identities, so if you know anything, call 802-748-3111!
But let’s not forget the star-studded cast! Michael Keaton’s reprising his iconic role, and Jenna Ortega is joining the party as Winona Ryder‘s daughter. Willem Dafoe is jumping in as a “law enforcement officer in the afterlife,” and Catherine O’Hara is back from the original film. A stellar lineup, if you ask us!
This sequel has been in the works forever! We heard whispers back in 2011, and Michael Keaton even spilled the beans about talks with Tim Burton in 2017. And now, it’s finally happening, well, kinda-sorta.
But here’s the kicker: the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike might delay production’s return to normal. That means more time for the Vermont State Police to crack this case and bring back Beetlejuice’s beloved statue.
Let’s keep our eyes peeled for more updates! Beetlejuice 2, we’re waiting for you! And while you’re at it, check out the deets on when the movie hits theaters and why the Haunted Mansion director is spooked by old Disney flicks!
