Jenna Ortega plays the eerie adolescent in the Netflix release of The Addams Family reimagining Wednesday.

The television show, which was developed by Tim Burton, Miles Millar, and Alfred Gough, centres on Wednesday and her experiences at the eerie boarding school Nevermore Academy.

The supporting cast members are Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia. In the series, Christina Ricci, who portrayed Wednesday in the 1991 motion picture The Addams Family and its follow-up Addams Family Values, also plays Marilyn Thornhill.

Where is Wednesday filmed?

Cantacuzino Castle in Buşteni, Romania, served as the backdrop for exterior shots for Nevermore Academy, the setting for the majority of the show.

After it was finished in 1911, the castle, which is open to the public, was used as the summer home for the family of Prince Grigore Cantacuzino. It became a hospital for the Ministry of Internal Affairs after being nationalised in 1948.

Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair in Wednesday, described the site to NME in the following way: “There were these really cool swings on the outside of the castle that a lot of us went to play on between [takes]. I definitely made multiple attempts to slink away and look around, but I was ultimately unsuccessful.

“There was a central column that Tim [Burton] really caught in on that had that kind of Addams Family aspect to it without it being a direct parallel,” production designer Mark Scruton said in an interview with GoldDerby. “I think that was a lynchpin for everything else.”

Other shooting locations include Bucharest Film Studios (also known as Buftea Studios) in Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. The studio has worked across film and television for over 60 years, including films The Voyagers and 2012 horror The Devil Inside.

Production on Wednesday started in September 2021 and wrapped on March 30, 2022.
