It’s been a while since something creepy came out of The Conjuring Universe, but Warner Bros. just utilised their CinemaCon presentation to officially announce The Nun 2.
According to Collider, during the Warner Bros. sizzle reel, little more than an image was presented, with no further specifics, such as a release date or a possible return of director Corin Hardy (The Hallows) or Bonnie Aarons as the titular demon Valak.
The Nun was widely panned when the movie was released in 2018, but it went on to become the most profitable spook in the Conjuring Universe, grossing $365 million worldwide. It’s a tribute to the brand’s potency, which began with James Wan’s excellent 2013 horror picture The Conjuring, whose sequel, 2021’s The Devil Made Me Do It, was the last film from the Universe to be produced, and which still managed to gross over $200 million worldwide during the pandemic’s peak. When you consider that it was part of HBO’s day-and-date HBO Max distribution plan, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. is revisiting their old ways.
