Netflix has just unleashed the trailer for Luther: The Fallen Sun and Idris Elba is back and better than ever.
Check it out here:
Yes, four years after the long-running BBC crime series came to an end, our rogue investigator John Luther is back.
When viewers last saw Luther, his days of fighting crime in a vigilante manner were ended, and he had been imprisoned.
What will happen to Luther and his tweed coat next?
A gruesome serial killer is terrorising London in Luther: The Fallen Sun, an epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film, according to a Netflix synopsis: “While brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars, a gruesome serial killer is terrorising London.
“Luther decides to break out of prison to accomplish the job by any means necessary since he is haunted by his failure to apprehend the cyberpsychopath who is now taunting him.”
Idris Elba will co-star with Cynthia Erivo as Luther’s adversary detective Odette Raine and Andy Serkis as the evil tech mogul David Robey, who uses technology to deceive and kill the public.
We need to know where he is, investigator Raine tells DSU Martin Schenk in the trailer.
Fans are aware that Luther has spent the last few years behind bars, but based on this clip, it appears as though he has managed to elude capture.
Although investigator Raine appears to be hesitant to let Luther to assist with the case, Luther is adamant about stopping Robey and declares that he is “still a copper.”
The movie is still under wraps, but Idris has teased fans with some hints.
“We really peel the onion back here because we had the time and scale to do that,” he told Empire back in November.
“It also gives Neil [Cross] a lot more, you know, Luther-land to play with, in terms of where Luther can go, how he goes, what the landscape is.
“We break out of the gritty streets of London, we take it outside of that a little bit. And that’s great. It feels like now we’re entering a different life of the Luther experience.”
“It’s really dangerous when expanding from television to film to throw a lot of money at it, and for that moment to change the characteristics of the show,”
Luther: The Fallen Sun will be in select theatres from 24 February and will drop on Netflix on 10 March.
