Disney+ has released the first image from The Santa Clauses, the planned sequel series to The Santa Clause, in honour of the halfway point to the holidays. In a previous trilogy of adored holiday movies, Allen portrayed the part of Scott Calvin, which he is now reprising. Elizabeth Mitchell, resuming her role as Mrs. Claus, and Elizabeth Allen-Dick, who will play her father’s fictional daughter, both appear with him in the new series. Additionally scheduled to participate are Kal Penn, who may take over for Scott as Santa, as well as series regulars Austin Kane, Rupali Redd, and Devin Bright.

The summary for the series states that when it picks up, Calvin will be approaching his 65th birthday and recognising he can’t continue to be Santa. His performance as Santa is beginning to slip, and more significantly, he has a family that would benefit from living in the real world, especially his two children who were raised at the North Pole. Scott sets out to find a good substitute for Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole because he has a lot of elves, kids, and family to please.

Allen previously won the People’s Choice Award for his performance as Scott Calvin, the man who took on the role of Santa Claus in the 1994 movie The Santa Clause. He would return to the role in The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2 in 2002 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in 2006, respectively.

Fans of the The Santa Clause movies immediately noticed that actor David Krumholtz, who portrayed the witty elf Bernard in the first two instalments of the series, was missing from the picture. This sparked a flurry of questions about whether or not he is connected to the project. As viewers may be aware, Krumholtz did not show up in the third instalment of the series, although the actor has already acknowledged that he was initially scheduled to do so before pulling out.
