With automakers being pushed to meet global emission targets, more Electric Vehicles (EVs) are underway and most manufacturers have pledged to fully electrify their fleet by the end of the decade.

The necessary change to EVs also includes more realistic and practical design and pricing in an effort to actually engage with consumers’ needs. And while many EVs look more like a toy than a car, others are actually affordable and practical.

So, to electrify you, here’s a Social Junkie list of the most anticipated electric cars for 2022.

Tesla Cybertruck

Expected to come out by the end of 2022, the Tesla Cybertruck has a starting point price of $39,900. It’s coming out to challenge the top-selling pickup trucks with its scratch and dent-resistant stainless exterior and an estimated driving range of 500-plus miles. The official sale date has not yet been confirmed but it looks like it will go into production in late 2022.

Lincoln Navigator

A luxury full-size SUV based on the Ford F-150 pickup, the Lincoln Navigator is one of the most polished and posh SUVs out there. Prices will be announced closer to the on-sale date early next year but the current 2021 Navigator at about $75,000 going up to $100,000. It competes against the Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, BMW X7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. With a hands-free highway driving system and a PowerBoost hybrid engine that uses a battery and electric motor, this car can improve fuel economy by 25%.

Mercedes-AMG SL

An SL icon, this car is the longest-running from the world’s oldest carmaker. In its seventh generation, the car will be launched as an EV for the first time. It will first come with a gasoline-powered V8 but a plug-in hybrid system inspired by Mercedes’ Formula One Car is in the works. Prices will be announced closer to next year’s market launch.

Land Rover Range Rover

A revolutionary design, this luxury truck continues to evolve since it first showed up in 1970. While a fully electric version is planned for 2024, a plug-in hybrid version will be available shortly after the launch in Spring. Featuring 60 miles of battery range, this will be the definitive green luxury SUV. Its estimated price will go between $105,000 and $120,000.

Lucid Air

Dubbed as the “Tesla Beater”, this is a luxury sedan from American start-up Lucid. And it does actually beat Teslas on technical categories such as range, power, acceleration, not to mention the stylish interior and exterior. Lucid plans to release more affordable Air electric cars in late 2022 but currently the cheapest model is the 2022 Air Grand Touring starting at $139,000. Up next, in spring 2022 will be the Air Touring, with prices starting at $95,000, followed by the $77,400 Air Pure in late 2022.
