Couple Installs Wine Bar In Their Home During Lockdown

We’ve seen some truly great lockdown DIY projects over the last eight months, including this magnificent wine bar made in one couple’s basement!

Eric Abrecht, a Baltimore resident, spent months building the pub. He worked around the clock on the astounding transformation, stitching together old materials – including recycled and repurposed wood and metal – and building walls, cabinets, and shelves.

Take a look at the photos – you would never think this is in someones home…

Dad Eric, 50, also used paint and glaze to add the finishing touches, before he made sure the bar was well and truly stocked with bottles of wine. He sourced the furniture from Antique shops and thrift stores to give it that authentic touch.

“I have a passion for projects like this,” said the artist.

“To wake up and you can’t wait to get going with it is the greatest feeling.

Eric continues,

“When friends are here, they go absolutely crazy when they realise what is really taking place in the basement.”

“Everything looks worn but comfortable. I made walls, front, ceiling and cabinets and shelves, and made them looked aged by paint and glaze. I purchased antiques, frames, signage or I make my old looking ‘antiques’ if I couldn’t find the right piece. We love Verona, Italy, so that led the antique hunt.”

“I even found an antique Italian phone and have that in the store. I installed an antique mail slot in the door and made an open and closed sign that hangs inside.

“All the alcohol is locked up in one area.”

Friends and family are often totally gobsmacked when they see what Eric has created! We can definitely see why. So many gardens were transformed over the lockdown period with added garden bars, but this really is something so unique!
