The new teaser for the upcoming Christmas action film Violent Night features David Harbour’s Santa dishing out “season’s beatings.”

The Stranger Things actor is in the black comedy, and based on the teaser, it may be a festive action movie that matches Die Hard.

The movie’s synopsis is as follows: “An elite team of mercenaries breaks into a family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone hostage inside.

“However, they aren’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.”

On social media, people have been debating the trailer and appreciating the film’s absurd concept.

One observer said:

“What do you get if you combine Home AloneDie Hardand a splattering of John Wicks???

“By the looks of it Violent Night! David Harbour as Santa could be the best Santa we never knew we needed.”

Another said: “If it is half as good as the trailer, it could dethrone Die Hard,”

A third person commented: “Never thought I’d ever see Santa drinking a glass of beer, throwing a few punches and sporting a man bun, but I’m loving it.”

“It doesn’t come out for two more months and this is already my new favourite Christmas movie,” claimed one fan.

A fifth user on social media commented: “Don’t know who thought of this concept but it’s amazing.”

With parts in movies like Extraction, Hellboy, and Black Widow, Harbour is no stranger to the world of action.

The director of this movie, Tommy Wirkola, told Empire that the Stranger Things actor was the “ideal fit” for the part.

He added: “His name came up and it was one of those things where me, the studio and the producers were like, ‘Oh yes, the perfect choice. Yeah, we want him’.

“He was the first person we went out to. I sat with him a couple of days later and he was he loved the script and had ideas that were great.”

Wirkola also remarked on how much fun it was to create innovative combat scenes in which Santa could use any item associated with Christmas as a weapon.

He said: “One of the things we discovered was that we have to use Christmas as much as we can in the action, and we have to use Santa Claus in this case as much as we can.

“For sure, the sack was something that came up early we knew we had to use in the fight, with the endless nature of it.”

The action depicted in the trailer, according to Wirkola, was merely “the tip of the iceberg.”

Some of the best action films in recent memory have been made by 87North, the production company behind Violent Night, including John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Viewers may rest easy knowing the movie is in capable hands with a crew like that.

Violent Night will be shown in theatres on December 2
